El who? What on earth is that supposed to mean? ... Well, read on ...

This is the story of how I got the name "El Caracho". Back in the early eighties (must be around 1982) my friend got a computer by Texas Instruments called TI99/4a. You know, the one that got so hot with the extended basic cartridge plugged in that you could almost cook eggs on it. Anyhow, my friend had a mountain climbing game for it called "Alpiner". It was a two player game, and you also had the option to play it in different languages.

At first we selected German, our native tongue. We were asked to name the two players, so we came up with "Piz Pickel" and "Paz Pockel", which we thought were two funny german names, sort of "mountain climbing related", because "Pickel" means pickaxe.

After a while of playing we decided to try out a different language and ended up with "spanish". Now we had to find two spanish sounding names, and after some thinking I came up with "El Caramba" and "El Caracho". Voila, the name "El Caracho" was born, and I use it ever since. The name was perfect for those old C-64 olympic games (like Summer Games, Winter Games, World Games, etc ..), where you had to pick a name with a maximum of 10 letters and a nation (in my case MEXico, because they speak spanish and I liked their national anthem).

I still use this name for every highscore I archive and every player I have to name. In addition to that I signed everything with this name, including the pieces of art I made in art class at school and all the computer graphics, demos and games I created on the C-64 (like the ones above), Amiga & PC. For our prom-night, which had a fairy tale theme, I was leading the group creating the decoration for the main stage, a huge "Cinderella Castle". And guess what was on top of the highest tower? Right, an "El Caracho" flag.

El Caracho - Bols Blue Curacao Label

The first Logo I came up with was based on the old design of the BOLS "Blue Curacao" liquor bottle label. I liked this fancy looking blue liquor, and we often called it "Blue Caracho", because if you drank to much of it, it would knock you out with "caracho".

The name and logo could easily be modified from "Blue Curacao" to "El Caracho", so my first logo was born. BOLS has changed their design of the "Blue Curacao" bottles by now, so I hope they don't mind if I use their modified old logo.

I have tried some other "borrowed" logos just for fun, but I always came back to the original "BOLS Blue Curacao" design.
