As mentioned
in my LEGO story, part of my "Lego
philosophy" is to rebuild the different models I had built
as a child. Tyrone Malone's trucks
still fascinate me, so when I considered building a "Mini-truck",
my decision soon felt in favor of one of his drag trucks, the "Super
Boss", world's fastest diesel at it's time.

As a child,
I even had a T-shirt
with one of his trucks on it, but now (until this
website opened recently) any reference on this late '70s trucks
was very hard to find on the net.
The first prototype of the Super Boss was 16 studs wide, but having
the transporter (and it's width due to the windshield) in mind,
I later narrowed it down by two studs.

This mechanism allows
the Super Boss to enter the transporter's rear platform and prevents
the drag truck from falling off while the Hideout Truck is driving.
Heavy usage of part 6575 and some rubber bands. |

The Super Boss has steering,
but the narrow fenders give very little way for rotation of the wheels
resulting in a very large turning circle. But who needs steering anyway,
when you are driving straight on a desert salt flat?
The hideout truck's steering is operated by turning the air filter
(!) on top of the cabin. |

Dimensions of the "Super
Boss":
Length: 39cm, width: 13cm, height: 17cm
Dimensions of the
"Hideout Truck":
Length: 62cm, width: 17cm, height: 27cm
When the model
was finished and I was creating this web pages, I suddenly found
lots of pictures on the net and in books.

Above right is the latest
version of the Super Boss, now with stickers from the 5563 and 5533
sets.
To the right are the models of Tyrone Malone's trucks I had built
as a child. The 3-way exhaust pipes show clearly that the transporter
is carrying the Bandag Bandit and not the Super Boss.
